I’m ‘Bout That Life

I’m Bout That Life

Luke 2:46-52

When we look at the passages of scripture for today, we find Jesus in the temple arguing with doctors, thinkers, priests, and scribes.  We also find that, these same folks were astonished at just how much Jesus knew about the scriptures and were amazed that someone so young could know so much about God Himself.  However, during this entire time, Joseph and Mary had been looking all over for Him.  I can even venture to say that they were frantic knowing that Jesus could have been anywhere but, when they did find Him, there he was, in the temple.  Being a parent myself, I can only imagine how they must have felt.  Here they were trying to get their business in order and totally forgetting that they had another responsibility of keeping track of their son.  Sometimes, we as parents can get caught up in our own mess and get so wrapped up in what we’re trying to accomplish that, we sometimes forget that there are children. Our children.  The ones that were given to us in the first place.  The same ones that, can and sometimes will, get on your nerves and seem to think that money really does grow on trees.  However, for the sake of argument, I want to say that, we were not born grown-ups.  Those same nerves that are being wrecked by your teenager or your younger child have been handed down from generation to generation just to make you understand just how it felt when you were the one that was wrecking that last nerve.  Nevertheless, I can fully appreciate the fear and frustration that Mary and Joseph had to have felt when they went all the way back to Bethlehem looking for Jesus only to find Him in church because, quite frankly, I’m sure that was the last place they thought they were going to find Him.  Even today, we as parents sometimes get a little twisted when it comes to our children.  We sometimes forget that, we haven’t always been the best parents in the world and that, sometimes, we actually to mess up a little bit.  What I’m really trying to say here is that we cannot lose sight of the fact that these children in here today could have been ANYWHERE but here they are…in the temple!

Young people, when you look at this scripture, Jesus is setting an example in the fact that you are never ever too young to do the Will of God.  Don’t let anyone here or out on the world tell you that you are not ready.  Don’t let them tell you that you need to wait a few years until you mature.  Don’t let them tell you that you don’t have what it takes to get other folks to come to Christ.  You were given the gift of Salvation and the commandment that Jesus gave to, “Go ye therefore into all the world…” did not say for those that are 21 and up.  As a matter of fact, one thing that Jesus did say was that unless you come as a child, there is no way you can get into Heaven.  So, don’t let anyone tell you any different.  When they look at you sideways when you’re obedient to the Will of God, you can look right back at them and say, “I’m bout that life”.  You are in the perfect position right now because you are at the age where you should want to question everything when it comes to being ‘bout that life.  The good news is that every question you have, has an answer for it right here in your Bible:

If you want to how to deal with your haters,  Go to Matthew 5:44-45:

44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

If you’re feeling lonely take some advice from David in Psalms 27:

27 The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

10 When my father and my mother forsake me, then the Lord will take me up.

14 Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.

If you ever thought about getting high then stop by Isaiah 40:31:

But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles;

If you want to be about that life, you need to be into this book!  Jesus never said that it would be easy but, He did say to, “Take my yoke upon you and learn of Me…For my yolk is easy and my burden is light…”  If you’re ready to give leave that other life behind and be about this life, Don’t wait another second.  You need to give your life to God while you still have life left.  Don’t wait until you get grown because there are some grown folks right now that will not be making it in.  Don’t worry about what your friends are going to think and don’t worry about what they are going to say.  They have no hell or heaven to put you in or out of.  If your parents don’t understand, that’s ok. When Jesus was in the temple being about His Father’s business, Joseph and Mary didn’t get it either because, it wasn’t their journey and yours isn’t your parent’s journey either.  I’m not saying to disrespect your parents because the Bible tells us to honor them so that we can live a long life.  What I’m saying is that, when it comes to you knowing where you will spend eternity, the decision is up to you.
